👩🔬🔧 Why India Needs More Women in STEM – and How We Can Help
Did you know that 43 % of India’s STEM graduates are women, but only 27 % actually work in STEM jobs? That’s a huge loss of talent for our country—and a missed chance for women to gain economic freedom and confidence.
What’s holding women back?
Safety & travel: Long, unsafe commutes make many families say “no.”
Old mind‑sets: People still think coding or mechanical work is “for men.”
Workplace hurdles: Few female role models, limited mentoring, and careers that stall after motherhood.
Why it matters
McKinsey estimates that adding 68 million women to India’s workforce by 2025 could boost our economy by $700 billion. More women at work also means better nutrition and education for families—benefitting everyone.
What we can do (yes, even students!)
Celebrate female STEM heroes in classrooms and social media posts.
Demand safer transport and flexible work policies from local leaders and companies.
Mentor or be mentored: Join school tech clubs or community programs that connect girls with industry professionals.
Challenge stereotypes: Speak up when someone says “girls can’t code”—then show them they’re wrong.
A modern society can’t run on half its talent. Let’s make labs, offices, and factories places where every future scientist and engineer feels welcome.
