🌾 Kaziranga: A Hidden Haven for Grassland Birds 🐦

Kaziranga National Park in Assam is widely known for its iconic one-horned rhinoceros, but a recent survey has brought attention to an equally important yet lesser-known aspect—its grassland bird diversity.

This one-of-its-kind study recorded an impressive variety of bird species that thrive in Kaziranga’s rich grassland ecosystem. Among them are species like the Finn’s Weaver and the critically endangered Bengal Florican, which depend on undisturbed grasslands for survival.

The Bengal Florican, found in regions across India, Bhutan, Cambodia, and Vietnam, faces severe threats from habitat loss due to overgrazing, burning, hunting, and climate change.

Grassland birds are vital indicators of ecosystem health. Their presence or absence tells us a lot about the quality of our environment. This survey reminds us that conservation isn’t just about protecting big mammals—it's about preserving every link in the ecological chain.

Let’s celebrate the often-overlooked role of birds in maintaining ecological balance. 🐦🌱
