🌍 Is Multilateralism Fading in Today’s World Order?

The global diplomatic landscape is shifting—fast.

The unpredictability of U.S. foreign policy, sometimes referred to as the “madman theory,” has introduced a high level of uncertainty across nations. Strategic tariffs, shifting alliances, and behind-the-scenes diplomacy have weakened the voice of the Global South and sidelined key multilateral institutions like the UN, IMF, and World Bank.

At a recent BRICS summit, for the first time, the joint declaration didn’t even mention the need to strengthen multilateralism. That’s a stark sign of changing times.

🔹 The U.S. approach of engaging countries one-on-one—rather than respecting multilateral consensus—has created divisions among nations that once stood united.

But amidst this disruption lies an opportunity.

🇮🇳 India’s Role:

As an emerging global power and soon-to-be host of BRICS 2026, India can serve as a unifying force. With growing influence in tech, trade, climate leadership, and AI innovation (India recently surpassed the UK and Germany in GenAI patents), the country is positioned to be the voice of the Global South.

Strategic autonomy, self-reliance, and smart partnerships—not dependency—must be our path forward. Whether it's in trade diversification, infrastructure investment, or defense modernization, India has the capacity to turn global flux into national strength.

As the world recalibrates, India has the potential not just to participate—but to lead.
