INS Tamal Commissioned: Marking the End of an Era in Naval Imports ⚓
The Indian Navy has officially commissioned INS Tamal, a stealth frigate built under Project 1135.6 in collaboration with Russia. This vessel stands out not only for its strategic capabilities but also because it marks a historic transition—INS Tamal is expected to be the last foreign-built frigate inducted by the Indian Navy.
With this, India closes a remarkable chapter of nearly 65 years of naval cooperation with Russia, during which 51 warships have been delivered. Despite delays caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the induction of INS Tamal symbolizes the continuity and strength of our bilateral defence ties.
Going forward, the Navy will focus entirely on indigenously manufactured vessels, aligning with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and a stronger Maritime India.
🚢 India's naval future is now firmly anchored in its own shipyards.
