India’s Defence Sector Gets a ₹1.05 Lakh Crore Indigenous Boost
In a major stride toward Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Government of India has cleared indigenous defence procurement worth ₹1.05 lakh crore, marking a significant acceleration in India’s defence production capabilities—post Operation Sankalp and Operation Synyindur.
All approvals fall under the ‘Buy (Indian-IDDM)’ category—Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured, a policy introduced in 2016 to strengthen India’s self-reliance in defence technology.
🔹 What’s being procured?
QR-SAMs (Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missiles): Crucial for short-range air defence (10–30 km), especially against UAVs and low-flying aircraft.
EW Suites (Electronic Warfare Systems): Critical for jamming, spoofing, and disabling enemy drones—as seen in Operation Synyindur’s effective counter-drone strategy.
Autonomous Submersible Vehicles: A strategic leap in underwater stealth capabilities, aiding special forces like MARCOS in shallow water covert ops. This places India among a select group of nations with indigenous capability in this domain.
🛡 This move is not just about procurement—it’s about capability, confidence, and creating a sustainable ecosystem for defence manufacturing that fuels innovation, generates employment, and secures sovereignty.
As the global security landscape evolves, India is signalling readiness—not just to defend, but to lead.
