🏆 Ahmedabad Declared Cleanest Big City in India — But There’s More to the Story
In this year’s Swachh Survekshan (Cleanliness Survey), Ahmedabad emerged as the cleanest big city, followed by Bhopal and Lucknow. But what makes this edition of the survey different is its new approach — introducing population-based city categories under the Super Swachh League (SSL).
Previously, large metro cities were judged together, regardless of population size — making comparisons unfair. This time, cities were assessed within defined population brackets, similar to weight classes in sports. Here’s a glimpse:
🔹 10 lakh+ population:
1st – Ahmedabad
2nd – Bhopal
3rd – Lucknow
🔹 Million+ population:
1st – Indore
2nd – Surat
3rd – Navi Mumbai
🔹 3–10 lakh population:
1st – Noida
2nd – Chandigarh
3rd – Mysuru
🔹 50k–3 lakh population:
1st – New Delhi (NDMC area)
This new system ensures scientific and fairer evaluation, recognizing urban cleanliness achievements relative to city size and population pressure.
As urban India grows rapidly, this kind of refined benchmarking helps better reward civic management — and sets clear targets for others to follow. A clean India is not just a campaign — it’s a continuous commitment. 🌱
