🏛️ 90 Years Later, a Historic Shift: Home Ministry Moves Out of North Block

This transition is part of the ambitious Central Vista Redevelopment Project, which envisions a Common Central Secretariat to bring ministries under one coordinated roof.

Here’s what makes this move historic:

🔹 Decentralized to Centralized:

Currently, ministries are scattered—Krishi Bhavan, Vayu Bhavan, and others are located in different parts of Delhi. This leads to delays and inefficiencies. The new Common Central Secretariat consolidates them, enabling faster decisions and stronger inter-ministerial coordination.

🔹 New Infrastructure, Modern Governance:

The Home Ministry will now operate from a newly built block with 347 rooms, designed for digital-era governance. The goal? A connected, efficient, and collaborative administration.

🔹 Heritage to Museum:

Designed by Baker and Dutton and inaugurated in 1921, the North and South Blocks have been key landmarks of British-era governance. Now, both will be transformed into the Yugeen Bhav National Museums—one narrating pre-1857 history, the other post-1857.

This shift symbolizes more than just relocation—it reflects India’s journey from colonial legacy to modern self-reliance, from old governance models to future-ready infrastructure.

A new administrative era has begun.
